TIP OF THE MONTH: 5 Easy Steps to start a company Facebook Page
April 14, 2009 | Posted by Carolyn Pikoulas
If you're wondering whether or not to start a Facebook page for your company, consider this: there are over 200 million Facebook users and 50% of them are over the age of 25. In order to get the most out of your company's page, here are 5 simple steps to follow:
#1 Don't just create a profile. Like any social marketing efforts, simply setting up a profile will not help you gain more traffic to your company's website. Frequently adding new, helpful information and status updates will keep your page fresh and interesting to viewers. Your fans who follow your page will be notified every time you post something new.
#2 Give Facebook Advertising a try.: Now that you can interact with current and prospective customers on Facebook, it's time to bring new people to your page. Experiment with a small Facebook advertising campaign to see if it helps drive more people to your page. While the Twitter community shuns ads, Facebook users are familiar with them. If the ads entice users to your page, consider it a success.
#3 Watch the experts. While brands like Jet Blue and Ford have mastered Twitter, Coca-Cola has mastered Facebook. Companies like these can help give you an idea about what to post on your page and what you can do to help your following grow.
#4 Use video. What's great about Facebook is that you can not only post images, but video as well. Nielsen's recent report on social networks noted that users spend an average of 3 hours and 10 minutes on Facebook per month--the highest average time per person among the 75 most popular brands online. Utilize the time they are engaging with the site to get branded content in front of them.
#5 Get your employees involved. Before you start promoting the page, encourage your employees, friends and family members become fans of your page. Ask them to be a part of the conversations to jump-start a thriving community.
