How to gain 300% more web traffic
TheNextWeb.com recently posted an interesting article by Dan Taylor, which focuses on how often business websites are updating their content. It concludes that many small business websites are missing out, because they aren’t taking the time to create fresh, relevant content. Why is this important? For one thing, those websites that update their content at least 5 times a month stand to gain an extra 300% in web traffic!
Last year, a survey by SiteKreator which included over 100,000 small business website owners, discovered that those who regularly updated their websites (5 times or more a month) had 300% more traffic than those who updated less than once a month.

How is it that merely updating content on your website can garner all that traffic? Simple: no one wants to read old news over and over again. Search engines like Google are drawn toward fresh content. In fact, Google announced last year that they were tweaking their algorithms to push older content down in the search results listings.
Over the past year, Google has also been working hard to fix the growing complaint that low-quality content sites (a.k.a. “content farms,” which are sites that place SEO goals over relevance) have been ranking higher than high-quality sites that are more important to users.
When we say, “Congratulations, your website is now live” to our customers, what we should really say is “alive.” Sure, launching a brand new site can feel like a load off your shoulders after all that hard work. But you should think of your site as a living, breathing creature. It needs to be fed (as in, create fresh content), exercised (improve user experience) and acknowledged (use social media tools and Internet marketing) to stay healthy.
