Mobile technology is constantly changing, which is why marketers need to stay informed about the latest statistics. Not only are more people surfing the web on mobile devices, but they’re also getting more comfortable with purchasing items with their cell phones and tablets. In addition, a February 2011 report shows that older Americans are catching up to younger generations in their use and ownership of these electronic devices.

Here are a few more interesting stats to ponder:

84% of smartphone owners use their devices to search local retailers, and 68% search for pricing information. (ROI Research Inc, 2011)

Americans are becoming more dependent on their mobile devices. In fact, 27% said they experienced a situation in the past month in which not having their cell phones on hand have caused them frustration. (PEW Research, April 2011)

42% of cell owners use their phone for entertainment when they were bored.

13% of cell owners pretend to be using their phone in order to avoid interacting with people around them.
